  • Phytohormones Interplay: Karrikin Signalling Promotes Ethylene Synthesis to Modulate Roots February 20, 2021
A role for karrikin signalling in regulating root development is now well established, although the nature of the perceived signal and the complete signalling cascade remain elusive. In a recent report, Carbonnel et al. demonstrate a role for ethylene in mediating karrikin signalling effect on root development.
  • Opening Doors for Cytokinin Trafficking at the ER Membrane February 19, 2021
The recent discovery of cytokinin transporters in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane provides a missing link to understand cellular cytokinin trafficking and signaling. Along with cytokinin receptors and metabolic enzymes previously found in the ER, these transporters complement the ER-confined infrastructure required for cytokinin signal generation and modulation.
  • VPS34 Complexes in Plants: Untangled Enough? February 15, 2021
Phosphatidylinositol-3-phosphate (PI3P) is essential for endocytosis and autophagy. VPS38 (endocytosis) and ATG14 (autophagy) are required for localized biosynthesis of PI3P. Liu et al. have shown that mutant arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) lacking both proteins are viable and synthesize PI3P, suggesting that the enzymatic complex VPS34 can function in absence of these regulatory subunits.
